Vince’s gifts from traveling: Oreo’s in an Oreo shaped tin, and French truffles with pistachios. The tin is “not as cool as I originally thought” according to him, but my response was “I was craving Oreos!” And they come in mini packages that would be perfect to take to work. The truffles are rich and yummy, but duh, it’s chocolate and pistachios :)

Gardening Update:

I might have forgotten to water the plants for a few days there, so the flowers on the gardenia plant my mom gave me died. BUT, lately I’ve been better at tending to them, and Vince has been watering them while I’m at work, so…new flowers have grown, the cilantro is doing great, and 2/3 of the herbs (chives, basil) in my herb kit are growing!! I guess the oregano is just shy?

Phew, not a total plant killer after all. My goal is to put all the herbs in a bigger pot once the seedlings are slightly bigger. And to grow tomatoes and maybe some more herbs.

How penny and I are feeling at the moment. Vince left for Hungary today to help his dad settle into an apartment (his dad will be living there for the summer) and to visit his grandma and sister. The lucky duck is also hitting up Vienna for a couple of days. He’ll be gone until next Wednesday night. I know it’s only 8 days, and we’ve done long distance before two separate times, but I’m really hoping this week flies by.

In the meantime, I’m planning on doing some serious Zumba practicing since June 8th is only 3 1/2 weeks away! And I also plan to catch up on Revenge and Girls, catch up on sleep and have lots of general R&R time, including some quality bonding time with penny :). I have a feeling she’s gonna want to be able to say “please stop talking” before this week is over.

Happy Birthday again to my lovely friend Amanda! Her birthday celebration was this Saturday since her actual birthday fell on Mother’s Day. We kicked off the evening at the Thai restaurant Viv, which was absolutely delicious. And then we went to Frames for some fancy bowling!

Amanda had booked us a great deal that included drinks and a platter of appetizers. Our friends Meredith and David also brought a yummy homemade birthday cake. We ended the evening with a crazy dance party in their mini club area. That part is a bit of a blur but it was certainly a great night of partying.

The next day, after a slow start, we left for my parents house with flowers, cake, and a bottle of orange bitters in hand (to add to my mom’s collection).

We had a delicious mother’s day lunch and just relaxed for a bit. Rachel made us some pretty good pina coladas, though I kept it virgin, for reasons. My mom was pretty excited to have mimosas, and my dad said “oh that’s the formula for mimosa, champagne and orange juice? I thought mimosa was a food.”

Me and my mom, aka wonder woman. She taught my sisters and I the meaning of unconditional love, and for that and everything else, we are truly grateful.

F*ck It We'll Do It Live Part 2

On Friday, we watched Lavinia play with the group “Fuck It, We’ll Do it Live” at a warehouse in Brooklyn. They put on another great show! This time they had more variety, including a few rappers, a comedian, dancers, singers, and even a mime (she was one of my faves).

Even though the area was a bit sketchy, the warehouse itself was cool, with lots of comfy couches, fun decoration and a rooftop area. They had a cute little bar, snacks, toys and glowsticks, and some games, such as a bean toss into the mouth of Bill O’Reilly (the inspiration for the group name).

Another funny thing was this “Cake Confessions” table - if you made a confession, you got a slice of cake! Neither of us did it, but a few others confessed things like never having an orgasm and having a 5-way during college. Quite entertaining. It was pouring during our commute home, and we waited a while for the Path train (long enough to witness a stupid fight break out), so ending the night with a 3am pizza party seemed appropriate.

We watched Before Sunrise and Before Sunset over the weekend, and are really looking forward to Before Midnight. The first two are pretty much just the two of them conversing, but they’re both so refreshingly real and have wonderful chemistry. I love how the director filmed them so many years apart; I think it helps make the story come to life because you see them grow up. These movies are now one of my favorite romantic comedies.
